2023: Disney Trip – Trattoria al Forno

Dinner at Trattoria al Forno: A Relaxing Start to Our Disney Trip
For our first night at Disney, we didn’t head into the parks since we only had a partial day—but that didn’t mean we skipped the fun. Instead, we took the Skyliner over to Disney’s BoardWalk and enjoyed a relaxing dinner at Trattoria al Forno, a cozy Italian restaurant known for its warm, rustic atmosphere and hearty, house-made dishes.
Trattoria al Forno is a hidden gem along the BoardWalk, offering freshly made pasta, wood-fired pizza, and rich entrees like chicken parmigiana and braised short ribs. It strikes the perfect balance between casual and upscale, with both indoor and outdoor seating where you can soak in the BoardWalk’s energy. Though it once hosted a popular character breakfast, it now focuses on dinner service—and it’s a great spot for unwinding after a travel day. I highly recommend getting reservations in advance, as this place tends to fill up quickly.
The color scheme for this layout was inspired by a background paper from a vintage Disney pack from the 90s. It wasn’t quite 12 inches wide, so I used torn edge borders to stretch the design and help it fit the page. To finish the edges, I added some old sticky ribbon that reminded me of spaghetti—just a fun, subtle nod to the Italian theme.
The graphics on this spread were created in Cricut Design Space and then drawn or cut out using my Cricut Maker. The title block was originally going to be cut, but the pieces were too thin and didn’t come out cleanly. So instead, I switched to pens and had the machine draw the title using two different pen colors, and I’m actually really happy with the way it turned out. The Remy character (from Ratatouille) took quite a bit of layering and patience, but I love the final result—it really adds personality to the page.
There’s also a bit of creative photo work on the right-hand page. One photo is placed at an angle, which serves two purposes: it levels out the plate in the image (for a better visual effect), and it strategically covers someone I chose to exclude from the layout. In the top photo, you’ll see my son and me looking at the camera—but that image is actually a 4×6 that I trimmed down to a 4×4. I then carefully cut out my son and repositioned him to again help frame the photo while keeping the layout intentional and focused on the memories that matter most.
Overall, I’m really happy with how this spread turned out—and by the way, if you ever have the chance to eat at Trattoria al Forno, I highly recommend it. It was a perfect way to kick off our trip, and the food and atmosphere did not disappoint.
