2022: Fort Worth Botanic Garden

Move the slider to see the photo sleeves open

The last adventure of 2002 was visiting the Fort Worth Botanic Garden in December. The weather was pretty nice and there were not too many people around, so it felt like we had the whole garden to ourselves.

It was difficult to pick just a few pictures for this spread, so I used a photo sleeve supply that came from my aunt’s collection. It was a set of movable plastic sleeves for photos with a sticker back so that you can attach it to anything. I decided it would be perfect for this project and you can see it on the right-hand side. If you use the slider bar on the photo above, you can see what it looks like opened and closed. This allowed me to put 11 photos in the place where 1 would normally go. Unfortunately, I don’t know if you can still buy things like this – it looks like it was purchased as much as 20 years ago, and I feel fortunate to have found it.

I used Cricut Design Space to create this layout, and my Cricut Maker to draw and the cut it out. I used elements from the Garden’s logo to create the title block and the leaf that is on the right-hand side of the spread. That leaf was fun to weed! The left-hand side has pictures from the Rainforest Conservatory and the right-hand side has pictures from outside in the gardens. If you look closely at the border on the right, you can see that I used a sewing machine to stitch an ivy pattern along it.

The YouTube video below shows the process of putting this spread together:
