2024: Memorial – Peggy Hill – Flowers

During the Victorian era, flowers became central to funeral rituals, with specific blooms carrying symbolic meanings, such as lilies representing the restored innocence of the soul. When we were planning my mother’s service we knew that we wanted some flowers that are indigenous to Southern Africa, where my mother grew up, and where our family lived for many years. When we showed up at the Celebration of Life Service we were so happy to see that the florist was able to find “Bird of Paradise” and Protea’s, two of my mothers favorite flowers from Africa.
This page showcases photos of our family flowers, as well as the flowers that were given by my mother’s sisters, which can be seen on the right-hand page. The background theme for this album is Victorian flowers and is used on all of the pages, but the secondary color theme was chosen from the two tone green ribbon that was on the wreath given by my mother’s sister which can be see on the far right, as well as underneath the photo.
The pink ribbon on the left-hand page is from the flower arrangement in the photos on this page. I embellished the page with Victorian butterflies, flowers, and a bird in a nest – all of which were some of my mother’s favorites, and were a staple in her paper crafting supply collection.
