2023: Upward Bound Trip – Boston Public Library

As we came near the end of our time in Boston we made a quick stop at the Boston Public Library.
The Boston Public Library, located in the heart of Copley Square, is a treasure trove of history, art, and knowledge. Founded in 1848, it was the first large free municipal library in the United States and remains one of the most prestigious libraries in the world. The library’s historic McKim Building is an architectural masterpiece, featuring grand marble staircases, intricate murals by John Singer Sargent, and the iconic Bates Hall Reading Room with its vaulted ceilings and green reading lamps. Beyond its stunning interiors, the library houses an extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts, and artwork, making it a haven for scholars and history enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy rotating exhibits, a serene courtyard perfect for quiet reflection, and the vast resources of its modern Boylston Street wing. The Boston Public Library is not just a place to borrow books but an immersive cultural and educational experience.
Since many of the photos from this short experience feature various shades of brown, I chose a brown theme for this spread to complement the images. I found the graphics of the lion and books in Cricut Access and used Cricut Design Space to design the layout. The matting was drawn and cut out with my Cricut Maker, adding a polished and cohesive look to the spread.
I particularly love how the book graphics lean against the pictures, creating a subtle yet impactful design element. On the left-hand page, you’ll notice a special detail: In the center I cut out part of the Boston Public Library’s logo as a small tribute to this incredible site. It’s a subtle but meaningful nod to the beauty and significance of this iconic location.
