2023: Upward Bound Trip – Empire State Building

Our next stop in New York was the Empire State Building, an iconic symbol of the city and a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture and engineering. Completed in 1931 during the Great Depression, this 1,454-foot skyscraper quickly became a global landmark and held the title of the world’s tallest building for nearly 40 years. Located in Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building offers breathtaking 360-degree views from its 86th and 102nd-floor observation decks, drawing millions of visitors annually. Beyond its stunning vistas, the building is renowned for its dazzling tower lights, which change colors to commemorate holidays, cultural events, and global causes. The experience also includes several museum exhibits, including an interactive King Kong experience that adds a playful and immersive element to the visit. With its rich history, timeless design, and cultural significance, the Empire State Building continues to captivate locals and tourists alike as a testament to human ambition and innovation.
I had a lot of fun creating this spread. For the background, I used photographic cardstock of vintage postcards of buildings paired with a tan color to match the tone of the Empire State Building. This entire design was created in Cricut Design Space and then cut out using my Cricut Maker. I found an image of the Empire State Building online and imported it into Cricut Design Space to incorporate it into the layout. The King Kong character, sourced from Cricut Access, adds a whimsical touch to the design. The photos on the left-hand side are matted in white to mimic the clouds in the graphic, while the right-hand side features a pen-drawn graphic of the Empire State Building created with my Cricut Maker’s pen feature. This spread also includes a rare photo of myself, which I took to share with my family on social media, making it a fun and memorable addition to the album.
