2023: Washington DC – Flight

Washington, D.C.: Where History, Leadership, and Inspiration Meet
Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, is a city where the threads of history and politics intertwine with culture and innovation. Known for its iconic landmarks like the White House, the U.S. Capitol, and the Washington Monument, it stands as the heart of American democracy, where decisions that shape the nation—and the world—are made. Beyond politics, D.C. is a hub of art, science, and education, home to the Smithsonian museums, the National Gallery of Art, and the Library of Congress. Its neighborhoods, from the historic charm of Georgetown to the lively energy of the U Street Corridor, reflect a city that embraces both its storied past and dynamic present. The cherry blossoms in spring, lively protests and marches on the National Mall, and countless festivals make it a city where history is alive, vibrant, and accessible to all.
In June 2023, I returned to Washington, D.C., for the culminating session of a year-long leadership development program I had been participating in. The experience was both professional and personal, as I had the chance to explore the city before, during, and after the program’s activities. This scrapbook spread serves as the introduction to several pages documenting the trip, starting with a flight-themed layout.
For the introduction page, I used background paper from a Washington, D.C. paper pack I had purchased back in 2012 during a previous trip. It felt fitting to incorporate it into this album, tying my past and present visits together. The focal point of the spread is a photo I took while approaching the airport, perfectly framed by the Washington Monument in the distance.
Using Cricut Design Space, I designed an airplane image from Cricut Access, carefully selecting colors to match American Airlines, the airline I flew. The pen feature of my Cricut Maker added the title to the left-hand side of the spread. To make the photos pop, I bordered them with a thin white stripe and matted the boarding pass in blue, adding a subtle touch of color. The result is a clean, simple design that sets the tone for the upcoming pages, capturing the excitement and gravitas of arriving in the nation’s capital.
This spread reminds me that Washington, D.C., is more than a backdrop—it’s a living symbol of democracy, leadership, and the pursuit of a better future. I’m excited to share the rest of this scrapbook journey, celebrating the city’s unique blend of history and inspiration.
