2023: Harry Potter – Forbidden Forest – Hedwig and Nifflers
Hedwig & Snitch: Loyalty, Mischief, and Magic in the Forest
While much of the Forbidden Forest Experience leans into the dark, shadowy corners of the wizarding world, this particular spread celebrates two magical creatures who bring lightness, charm, and just the right amount of trouble—Hedwig and Snitch the Niffler.
One of the more peaceful stops along the trail was a beautifully lit scene featuring a parliament of owls, including a tribute to Hedwig herself. Her presence in the experience reminded me how much she represents the emotional heart of Harry’s story—loyal, wise, and always watching. I featured Hedwig on the left-hand page of this spread, anchoring the layout in cool whites, grays, and silver tones. The entire page was designed in Cricut Design Space and cut using my Cricut Maker, including the detailed Hedwig cutout, which was purchased on Etsy. I added a double torn-edge border on the left to create texture and motion, and tucked in the top right is a tag logo from the event gift shop—a small, real-world keepsake that now lives in the story of this page.
On the right-hand page, the tone shifts to something more playful. Snitch the Niffler and his mischievous friends make their appearance here. Known for their unrelenting love of all things shiny, Nifflers bring a spark of chaos to the magical world. Including Snitch in this layout was my way of capturing the whimsy that still weaves through even the darkest parts of the Forbidden Forest. After all, what’s a proper magical adventure without a little mayhem?
The right-hand page features a warm yellow and gold color palette—partly in tribute to all the gold Snitch loves to steal, and partly as a nod to Hufflepuff House, whose emblematic badger also makes a cameo in this spread. One of the photos shows the trail signage announcing the upcoming Niffler scene, which I chose to highlight because the actual photo of the Nifflers nestled inside a tree stump is easy to miss unless you look closely. To help guide the viewer’s eye, I included a Cricut-cut image of Snitch, purchased on Etsy, giving extra clarity—and personality—to the scene.
Together, these pages reflect two very different moods: Hedwig’s calm watchfulness and Snitch’s gleeful mischief. I used layered paper choices and Cricut-cut embellishments to emphasize that contrast, creating movement, depth, and a little bit of sparkle across the full spread. This layout reminds me that the magic of the wizarding world isn’t just in its spells and wands—it’s in the creatures who surprise us, the loyalty that grounds us, and the joy that sometimes comes from the most unexpected corners of the trail.
