2024: Pivovar Hotel, Waco, TX
While my mother was in the hospital, I participated in a phone interview with McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. After her celebration of life service, I traveled to Waco for an on-campus interview. MCC graciously arranged my stay at the Pivovar Hotel—a thoughtful gesture and a truly memorable experience during a deeply emotional time.
The Pivovar Hotel in Waco, Texas, offers a truly distinctive stay, blending Czech-inspired elegance with Texas charm. Located next to the iconic Magnolia Silos, this boutique hotel is part of a larger complex that includes a working brewery, Czech-style beer spa, restaurant, and bakery. Guests can enjoy the unique experience of soaking in warm beer baths, savoring traditional European fare, and sipping house-brewed lagers—all without leaving the property. With its exposed brick, custom ironwork, and old-world aesthetic, Pivovar pays tribute to Czech brewing traditions while creating a modern, upscale retreat in the heart of downtown Waco.
For this layout, I chose a rich brown kraft paper paired with textured embellishment cardstock to echo the warm, rustic vibe of the Pivovar Hotel. The earthy tones felt like the perfect pairing—much like a bold stout with a hearty meal—to complement the style of the photos. As always, I designed the page elements in Cricut Design Space and cut them using my Cricut Maker. The photos on the left showcase the hotel entrance, with a glimpse into the working brewery just beyond. I stayed on the third floor, which offered a unique view looking down into the brewing area—like having a front-row seat to the craft beer magic. The cutout embellishment in the center of the page features a detail from the hotel’s logo, tying everything together.
On the right-hand page, I tucked the beer spa brochure into a hidden pocket behind a Cricut pen-drawn tub—a fun, interactive detail for viewers to discover. The photos on that side include the sleek bathroom (which I loved so much I’m recreating it at home) and the view of the Magnolia Silos from my window. I finished off the page with a few wheat stalks, a subtle nod to the brewing process and the hotel’s Czech beer heritage.
