2022: Dallas City Hall

I am finally getting back to scrapbooking the end of 2022! It has been a difficult year, with little time to be creative. But I am going to try and commit to doing one page per day for the few weeks to see if I can get caught up.
This spread is from December 2022, when I went on a weekend trip to Dallas to visit a friend. He works in the Dallas City Hall and gave me a short tour before we went off for the fun of the weekend. This building designed by architect I.M.Pei, in the brutalist style is striking on the outside and the inside, and I wanted to capture that beauty in a scrapbook spread.
While I was looking at the outside, I had a feeling that I had been there before, and when I met my friend, he shared with me that a couple of scenes from the 1987 version of Robocop had been filmed in front of the building! I made homage to that in the middle of the right-hand page with the Robocop icon.
I designed this spread in Cricut Design Space and then drew and cut it out on my Cricut Maker. The left-hand side has pictures from the outside of the building along with a “Dallas” title piece, and then a second matting with the “City Hall” title. I did this on purpose to make it look like a file folder that you might find in an official office building like this.
The right-hand page has pictures from the inside of the building, including the official council room, and the pen drawn robocop icon. I chose greys for the color scheme of this spread to match the brutalist design of the building, and also added some vertical and slanted strips to the background page to mimic the shape of the building.
