2023: Upward Bound Trip – Times Square
We were fortunate enough to experience Times Square both during the day and at night, and I highly recommend visiting at both times as they offer uniquely different vibes. During the day, you’ll feel the bustling energy of business and activity, while at night, the dazzling lights truly come to life, and more street performers emerge, adding an extra layer of excitement.
Times Square, often referred to as “The Crossroads of the World,” is a dazzling hub of entertainment, culture, and commerce in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Known for its towering digital billboards, neon lights, and bustling energy, Times Square attracts millions of visitors each year. This iconic location is home to theaters, restaurants, and flagship stores, making it a centerpiece of New York City’s vibrant lifestyle. It is also the site of the annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, a tradition that draws global attention and symbolizes the start of the new year. Whether taking in a Broadway show, enjoying street performers, or simply soaking in the electric atmosphere, Times Square offers an unforgettable experience that embodies the dynamic spirit of New York City.
This spread is relatively simple but intentionally designed to capture the essence of Times Square. I selected Times Square-themed background paper for the left-hand side, featuring the iconic scene, and used the reverse side of the same cardstock, which shows lights reflecting off a road, for the right-hand side. The spread features six photos—three taken during the day and three at night. I chose not to use photo borders, as I wanted the pictures to blend seamlessly into the background, encouraging the viewer to focus on the images while preserving the visual impact of the background itself.
To enhance the layout, I created two custom elements with my Cricut Maker: a Times Square road sign and a New Year’s Eve ball. Both images were sourced online, uploaded into Cricut Design Space, and cut using my Cricut Maker. I’m especially excited about the ball, which was cut from glitter cardstock. Its sparkly finish adds a touch of glamour and perfectly captures the festive spirit of Times Square at night.
