2024: Move from Oklahoma to Texas

Moving is one of life’s great paradoxes—it’s both an exciting new beginning and a bittersweet goodbye. It’s the chaos of boxes and packing tape mixed with the hope of fresh starts and unfamiliar streets. Whether you’re relocating across town or across state lines, every move is a journey filled with emotion, transition, and storytelling. And like any major life event, it deserves a place in our scrapbooks.

This layout documents the chapter when we left Ada, Oklahoma and headed to our new home in Waco, Texas. It’s a spread that captures more than just the physical relocation—it holds the emotion of leaving a familiar place and the anticipation of what lay ahead.

The entire two-page spread was designed in Cricut Design Space and brought to life with my Cricut Maker, combining intricate cut files and custom-drawn details. I chose an antique map print as the background paper, a subtle nod to the idea of travel, movement, and tracing our path forward.

On the left-hand page, you’ll see photos of our moving truck being loaded in Ada. The focal point is a large SVG of a moving truck, which I customized in blue to match the Atlas Van Lines truck we actually used. That little detail gave the page a personal, realistic touch that feels authentic to our story.

The right-hand page anchors the narrative with cutouts of both Texas and Oklahoma—double-matted for contrast and dimension, making them pop against the background. A black line connecting the two states loosely represents the route we took, symbolizing the literal journey we made that day. I added a bison for Oklahoma and a cowboy hat for Texas, letting iconic symbols tell the story without needing many words.

The photo on that side shows the truck being unloaded at our new home in Waco—an image full of boxes and promise. One thing that really stood out from the experience: it took nearly four hours to pack everything into the truck, but less than one hour to unload it. Funny how quickly something can arrive once you’ve taken the hard step of letting go.

This spread was more than just fun to make—it was healing. It gave me a chance to reflect on the tension of moving: the closing of one chapter and the brave beginning of another. Every detail, from the map paper to the color of the truck, helped me process that change—and now, it’s preserved forever.
