2024: Thanksgiving Break – Magnolia Silos

If you’ve been following along with our Thanksgiving 2024 adventure in Waco, you know we packed a lot into a short visit. After Magnolia Table and the Silos Baking Co., it only made sense that we would spend time walking the grounds of the Silos themselves. This spread captures that part of the day – the slower wandering, the pictures in front of landmarks, and those little design details that make a place feel iconic.
For this layout, I built the entire color scheme around one simple thing: the Magnolia paper bag I picked up in the store. That warm kraft brown with black lettering just feels classic. So I leaned into it. The cardstock background mirrors that soft brown tone, and the stickers I purchased had the same earthy undertones. When I scrapbook, I love letting something tangible from the location set the visual direction for the page. It keeps the design grounded in the memory.
On the left hand page, I included a picture of my son at the entrance. There is also a selfie of the two of us in the patio space, which might be one of my favorites from the whole trip. And then a photo of him inside the greenhouse. That greenhouse light is something special. It has this filtered, peaceful glow that makes everything feel calm and intentional.
The right hand page moves us closer to the Silos themselves. There are photos near the base of the silos and out in the open green area where families were relaxing and kids were playing. I also included a picture of the handprints in the shopping counter inside Magnolia Market. It is such a small detail, but it felt meaningful – a literal imprint of creativity and legacy embedded into the store.
All of the remaining stickers I purchased found a home on this page. Yes, they were a bit pricey. Magnolia is not known for bargain souvenirs. But when I am creating a spread like this – one tied to my son’s first visit and a concentrated few days together – I do not mind investing a little more to make the page feel complete.
This spread feels warm. Earthy. Rooted. Just like the Magnolia brand itself. And more than anything, it represents time – limited, intentional, and well spent.
Sometimes the best design decision you can make is simply to let the place tell you what colors to use.
