2023: Upward Bound Trip - Statue of Liberty Museum

After taking our pictures in front of the Statue of Liberty, we made our way to the Statue of Liberty Museum, which offers visitors a deeper understanding of the history, symbolism, and construction of this iconic monument. Opened in 2019, the museum features interactive exhibits, immersive displays, and rare artifacts that bring Lady Liberty’s story to life. One of the most striking exhibits is the original torch, which was replaced in 1986 and now stands as a centerpiece of the museum. You can see the torch in the top right corner of this spread, with the Statue of Liberty visible in the background.

Visitors can also explore a multimedia experience that reveals the engineering marvel behind the statue’s construction, as well as its cultural impact over time. The museum’s Inspiration Gallery invites guests to reflect on liberty and freedom by contributing their own images and thoughts to a digital collage. With breathtaking views of the statue and Manhattan skyline, the museum provides a comprehensive and engaging experience that beautifully complements a visit to Liberty Island.

The design for this spread centers on the Statue of Liberty head image featured on the left-hand side. This image was actually cut out from the merchandise bag at the museum store, which I carefully cut out using sharp pointed scissors, and sewn directly onto the cardstock. To complement this design, I chose a gray and green color palette. The spread also includes a unique dollar bill encased in a plastic protector, attached to the cardstock. If you look closely, you’ll notice the bill features a date stamp, which is also displayed prominently in the middle of the pictures on the right-hand page.

The right-hand page showcases four photos: two from outside the museum, capturing its stunning architecture, and two from inside. One of these photos highlights the original torch, as previously mentioned, while the other features a towering copper replica of the Statue of Liberty’s face. To tie the design together, I matted the set of photos with copper cardstock to reflect the copper face, and I placed the date stamp in the middle of the layout. For added visual interest, I used a torn-edge green border, matching the patina of the Statue of Liberty, to create texture in the background. Finally, I used Creative Memories circle cutters to cut the two circles that hold the date stamp, completing the cohesive design.
