2013: Fairmount, IN and James Dean
I must start out this post with apologizing that this picture is slightly out of focus. I did not realize it until I got ready to use it with this post, and unfortunately I cannot take a new picture of this page, because it is now in Sweden, with our exchange student.
This page remembers a trip in the winter to Fairmount, IN, where James Dean grew up, and where he is buried. We were able to visit the James Dean Gallery which has a a collection of artifacts from James Dean, as well as a period antique store where you can buy items from the 50s and 60s. I purchased the first day cover at this Gallery and incorporated it into the page.
James Dean’s grave site is very unassuming and in fact you almost drive over it while you are looking for it. It is interesting to visit because some visitors leave him scigarettes, and the tombstone is always covered with lip-stick kisses left from dutiful female fans.
