2023: Upward Bound Trip – Walk through New York

As we explored New York City, heading to various destinations, we passed several famous landmarks. I decided to highlight them all on this one page. Starting at the top left and moving clockwise, these include:
- The Alexander Hamilton burial site: Located in the Trinity Churchyard in Lower Manhattan, this is the final resting place of one of America’s Founding Fathers and the first Secretary of the Treasury. Marked by an elegant marble monument, the site honors Hamilton’s legacy as a key architect of the nation’s financial system and a pivotal figure in American history.
- Trinity Church Wall Street: Situated at the intersection of Broadway and Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, this historic Episcopal church is renowned for its stunning Gothic Revival architecture. Its churchyard is the final resting place of notable figures like Alexander Hamilton, making it both a place of worship and a significant historical landmark.
- St. Patrick’s Cathedral: Found on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, this iconic Neo-Gothic cathedral is one of New York City’s most revered landmarks. Known for its soaring spires, intricate stained-glass windows, and serene interior, it offers a spiritual sanctuary amidst the bustling city.
- Rockefeller Plaza: Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, Rockefeller Plaza anchors Rockefeller Center and is a world-renowned cultural and commercial hub. Famous for its ice skating rink, iconic Christmas tree, and Art Deco architecture, the plaza is a vibrant destination for visitors year-round.
- 54 Pearl Street: Situated in New York City’s Financial District, this address is home to Fraunces Tavern, a historic landmark and museum central to Revolutionary War history. It served as the site of George Washington’s farewell address to his officers in 1783 and offers a glimpse into America’s early history.
- The New York Stock Exchange: The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) building, located on Wall Street in New York City, is an iconic symbol of global finance and capitalism. Known for its grand facade adorned with Corinthian columns and an intricate pediment, the building serves as the epicenter of the world’s largest stock exchange.
- The Charging Bull: This iconic bronze sculpture, located in New York City’s Financial District, symbolizes strength, resilience, and the optimism of the American financial market. It has become a popular tourist attraction and a powerful emblem of Wall Street.
I chose a brown theme for this spread to complement the colors of the buildings while also tying in with the background cardstock on the left-hand page, which features the names of NYC streets, districts, and sites. Using Cricut Design Space, I designed the graphic on the left page, replacing one of the reliefs in the pediment with an outline of the Charging Bull. The lines of the steps and the roof were drawn with the pen feature of my Cricut Maker. To finish the design, I added a torn-edge border on the right-hand side, overlaid with a strip of shiny copper cardstock to reference coins, representing Wall Street.
