2023: Washington DC – AALI

The reason I was in Washington, D.C., was to attend the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI), marking the second part of a year-long program. I had previously been to D.C. for the first portion of the institute in June 2022. This scrapbook spread was especially fun to create, as I chose a red theme to match the AALI logo and bring energy to the design.
The training was held at the Cosmos Club, a prestigious private club steeped in history and intellectual tradition. Established in 1878, the Cosmos Club is housed in a stately mansion on Embassy Row, known for its elegant architecture with grand staircases, opulent chandeliers, and richly adorned meeting spaces. It has long been a gathering place for distinguished individuals in the arts, sciences, literature, and public service—a perfect setting for leadership training.
I designed the layout in Cricut Design Space, using my Cricut Maker to cut and draw the various elements. I downloaded the Cosmos Club logo and used the Cricut Maker’s pen feature to draw it onto the page. I also included personal touches like my name tag and the table tent that marked my spot in the dining room, which added a sense of place and memory to the design. To complete the spread, I added a torn-edge border for texture and used my sewing machine to stitch stars along the left-hand side, tying together the theme with a creative and polished finish.
