2023: Korean War Veterans Memorial

Our next stop on our Washington, D.C., tour was the Korean War Veterans Memorial, a deeply moving tribute to the millions who served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Dedicated in 1995, the memorial features 19 life-sized stainless steel statues of soldiers, representing all branches of the armed forces, depicted on patrol through unforgiving terrain. These figures are set against a striking black granite wall etched with images of those who supported the war effort, creating a powerful interplay of reflection and reality. At its center lies the Pool of Remembrance, a serene space honoring the more than 36,000 American lives lost. With the words “Freedom is Not Free” inscribed nearby, the memorial is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the often-overlooked “Forgotten War,” underscoring the enduring cost of liberty and the valor of those who served.
For this scrapbook spread, I chose a green color scheme to reflect the grass surrounding the memorial. I incorporated two silhouette images from Cricut Design Space, which I cut out using my Cricut Maker. To hold the Korean War Veterans Memorial brochure, I sewed a custom pocket with my sewing machine. Additionally, I crafted a military ribbon for the Korean War using my Cricut, adding a meaningful and personal touch to this tribute.
