Why I didn't scrapbook for 7 months

Update: Life Got in the Way of Scrapbooking

It has been a while since I last posted on MAScrapping. In fact, my last blog post was back in March 2026! I certainly didn’t intend to take a seven-month break, but somehow life got busy, other projects took priority, and my scrapbooking found itself on the back burner.

Spring arrived, and with it came the gardening season. I spent quite a bit of time outside working in the yard, planting flowers, and getting everything ready for the warmer months. I really enjoy gardening, and when the weather is nice, it is hard to justify sitting inside at my scrapbook table when there is so much to do outdoors.

Then came summer, and if you have ever experienced a Texas summer, you know just how hot it can get! You would think that the heat would have driven me back inside to work on my scrapbooks, but somehow that didn’t happen. It was so hot outside that I just wanted to sit and watch TV when I got home from work. And, before I knew it, the new academic year was approaching, and my work at the college became increasingly busy. Once the fall semester started, there just didn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything that I wanted to accomplish.

Of course, that doesn’t mean I stopped being creative altogether. One of the other projects that has been occupying my time is sorting through several boxes of family photographs, documents, and genealogy materials that I inherited. It has been a fascinating experience going through generations of family history, discovering photographs I had never seen before, and trying to organize everything in a way that will preserve these memories for the future. I have been sorting the materials into envelopes for individual family members, with the next step being to select the best photographs and eventually get them into albums. In many ways, this is another form of scrapbooking, just on a much larger scale!

Then, in October, I went on a cruise to Alaska. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking about all the photographs I was taking and all the scrapbook pages I still needed to create. I realized just how far behind I had gotten – two whole years! I have always enjoyed documenting my travels and experiences, but the longer I waited, the more overwhelming the growing backlog seemed to become.

That cruise turned out to be just the motivation I needed. I began thinking about ways to make the design process more efficient and started experimenting with some new creative tools, including artificial intelligence. Even with the rather poor internet connection aboard the ship, I found myself exploring ideas for scrapbook layouts and discovering some exciting possibilities. It reminded me how much I enjoy the creative process and how much I had missed spending time on my albums.

So, here I am, ready to get back to it!

I still have plenty of pages to share from previous adventures, along with new projects and some interesting techniques I have been experimenting with. I am particularly excited about sharing how I have been using AI as a creative partner in designing scrapbook layouts. I think it opens up some fascinating possibilities, especially for those of us who enjoy creating our own designs rather than relying entirely on commercially available embellishments.

I can’t promise that life won’t get busy again, but I am determined to make more time for scrapbooking and for sharing my projects here on MAScrapping.

After all, the memories aren’t going to scrapbook themselves!
