2021: East Central University Opening Day

August 2021 was an exciting time in the life of college students – they were getting the opportunity to come back to school after Covid and have what we considered to be a normal start. The year before we had a very muted move-in and few opportunities for students to get together. In 2021 we started fresh and opening day was exciting. I am currently working at East Central University and we put on a big show to welcome our students including using our football entrance tunnel and an elaborate stage setup for our welcoming meetings.

For the left-hand page I used some cardstock that I purchased at our local scrapbook store. For a town our size I was surprised that we had one, and immediately bought a copy of everything that they had in East Central University themes. I added two selfies that I took on opening day which I bordered in Orange (one of our school colors) and added the ECU bumper sticker to the mix. The #ECUTIGERS sticker which is on the page was actually from a keyboard sticker set.

For the right-hand page I used white and orange cardstock to create the background, and the black oval which you might recognize as a cutout from the George W Bush Presidential Center spread. If you look at the top two photos, you will notice that I overlapped them so that you could get the full effect of the stage setup. This caused them to not be in full alignment, and I adjusted the matting to fit the overlap. I had to decide which object in the pictures to align upon, and I selected the bottom of the screen as it was the straightest item in the picture.

Recently for most of my scrapbook creations I have also created videos that show me putting them together and talking about the experiences as well as the techniques that I am using. So please enjoy watching this spread being created and assembled:
