2021: Chickasaw Cultural Center

In the Fall of 2021, my parents and I went to visit the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma. We wanted to be more aware of the history of the people on whose lands we are currently living and had been told that this was one of the best ways to do that. For this spread I used a Swinging Shutter Plastic Page Protector which impacts the design of the pages. At the bottom of this post are two videos I made of how these pages work.
I chose brown and copper as the colors for this project which accent the colors of the pictures and the brochures. The left-hand page above has four pictures from the Chickasaw Cultural Center which have a tan matting which I created using Cricut Design Space and my Cricut machine. Notice that the center cutout of the matting is similar to a part of the logo for the Cultural Center. The cutout reveals the dark brown background beneath. I used a jagged edge tearing tool to create the copper torn edge border on the left-hand side.
The right-hand page is where I used the swinging shutter plastic page protector, and this is probably best explained by watching the accompanying videos. For the front side of the shutters, I used six pictures that I took at the Center featuring the facility and a Stomp Dance demonstration. When you open these up like window shutters you see what is below:

On the back side of the shutters I slide in brochures from the Center so that they can be removed and read by the viewer. On the main page I put a map of the Center bordered with copper colored paper, along with the Center logo which was on the bag from the gift shop. I also put the cutout from the matting on the left-hand page onto a border strip of light brown paper to help create more interest on this page.
Recently I began creating videos that show me putting them together and talking about the experiences as well as the techniques that I am using. So please enjoy watching this spread being created and assembled:
Below is a video of putting this spread into the Swinging Shutter pages so that you can see how they work once they are in the album:
