2023: First Americans Museum

After visiting the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City we travelled over to the First Americans Museum. You can get a two for 1 deal on tickets at either location which I recommend as both museums can be given full attention in half a day, and it adds historical perspective to experience both in the same time frame. I would suggest that you eat lunch at the First Americans Museum at Thirty Nine Restaurant where you can experience modern Indigenous cuisine.
The FAM is an extremely well done museum that paints a historical reality of the 39 tribes who were resettled to Oklahoma in a way that can be understood by all ages. If you are visiting Oklahoma City I would say that this is the number one place to experience.
This spread combines some outdoor pictures from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum along with the entrance to the First Americans Museum. I did not take any pictures inside as it did not feel respectful to do so. You will notice in the middle of the pictures is a adhesive plastic envelope that contains some crushed corn – my son made this in one of the children’s exhibits and saved some so that it could make it into the album. We shall see how long it lasts before it goes bad.
The left-hand page contains the map from FAM as well as one of our reversable tickets that we used to gain entrance to both museums. The Blue FAM tabs that can be seen holding the map had to be clipped onto our clothes to show that we were museum guests. I chose the hand symbol for this spread as it is one of the indigenous symbols that is used in the entrance arch to the FAM museum.
