2023: Upward Bound Trip to Boston and New York – Title Page
In May 2023, I had the honor of serving as a chaperone on an Upward Bound Senior Trip to Boston and New York. It was an incredible experience to witness the excitement and growth of these students as they explored new places and connected with one another.
The TRIO Upward Bound Program is a federally funded initiative aimed at empowering high school students from low-income families or those who are the first in their families to attend college. By offering academic support, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities, the program equips students for success in higher education. Services include tutoring, college application assistance, career exploration, and cultural experiences. Upward Bound creates a supportive environment where students build confidence, develop essential skills, and break down barriers to achieve their educational aspirations. For many, the program represents a transformative opportunity to reach milestones they once thought were unattainable.
Over the Christmas break, I dedicated time to catching up on my scrapbooking and successfully completed an entire album of 36 spreads. As part of my process, I always save the Title Page for last. This approach allows me to establish the album’s theme as I work through it. Although this page was the final one I created, it’s the first thing you see when you open the album, and I’m excited to share it with you first.
Using Cricut Design Space, I designed the layout and brought it to life with my Cricut Maker. I uploaded the TRIO logo I found online and incorporated additional images sourced from Cricut Access. These elements came together to create a design that reflects the vibrancy of the trip and the students’ energy.
For the background, I selected a dynamic paper from a New York-themed pack that features iconic imagery, adding a sense of motion and excitement to the page. This Title Page was a new experiment for me—allowing most of the design to be drawn with a pen rather than cut out. I was pleasantly surprised with the result and may use this technique in future projects.
This album captures so many unforgettable moments from the trip, and I’m thrilled to share a glimpse of it with you. Scrapbooking allows me to relive these experiences and celebrate the students’ journey, and I hope it inspires you to preserve your own cherished memories.
