2023: Upward Bound Trip – George Washington Statue – Boston Public Garden

As part of our exploration of Boston Common and Public Garden, we went and saw the George Washington statue.
The George Washington statue in Boston Public Garden is an iconic landmark and a symbol of leadership and resilience. Erected in 1869, this grand equestrian statue was created by sculptor Thomas Ball and serves as a tribute to the first President of the United States. Standing at the park’s western end, the statue depicts Washington on horseback, exuding strength and determination. Surrounded by beautifully landscaped greenery and pathways, the statue is a popular spot for visitors to pause and reflect on Washington’s pivotal role in shaping the nation. As part of America’s oldest public park, the statue seamlessly blends history and artistry, offering a glimpse into Boston’s reverence for its revolutionary roots.
This is an iconic statue in Boston Public Garden that many people take pictures of because the city of Boston is in the background. You can see from the picture on the top right that I have taken the same photo. I decided to dedicate a full spread to the statue but did not have too many photos and thought it would be repetitive, so I used Cricut Design Space to develop the graphic that you see on the left. This took quite a bit of time, and I am really pleased with the outcome. The title at the bottom was written using the pen feature. I chose a green theme for the background and matting to mimic the green of the grass in the pictures.
You will notice that I have put two rows of bricks on the edges to tie this to the other spreads on the Freedom Trail. I learned afterward that the statue is not officially on the Freedom Trail, so I want to make that correction here, even though I do not plan to change the spread.
