2016: Hot Air Balloon Festival – Marine, Illinois
In September of every year a small town in Illinois hosts the Hot Air Balloons over Marine festival. In 2016 we had the pleasure of spending several hours at this event. While there are various activities that take place at the Festival, the highlight is the launching of the hot air balloons. I took about 100 pictures of this occurring, and captured the full sequence of one of the balloons. In order to show all of these pictures I used a panoramic fold-out page protector which allows you to have six full pages in one spread. The above spread is a double spread, and it opens in the middle to reveal the 4 pages that you can observe below. I used my Cricut Machine to cut all of the hot air balloons that you see on all six of these pages.
In order to mimic the rise of the hot air balloon into the air I place the pictures on the page in relative position to the height of the balloon. This was the viewer gets the feeling of the balloon lifting up and floating away. I used a cloud background paper for all six pages to help keep the pages feeling light, and to showcase the hot air balloon cutouts on the page.
